Ever wonder how dyeing eggs, hiding them and bunnies relate to a Christian holiday? The most important Christian holiday of the year. I was confused as a kid as well but went along with the traditions because that’s what everybody did. When questioning an adult they could’t give a straight answer because they truly didn’t know either. The horrible truth is that even as an adult I misled my children in this same stupid tradition. I didn’t really think too much about it and honestly didn’t think it mattered much. What could be so bad? Those little bunnies are so cute. Besides they come in chocolate ones as well. Boy was I wrong!! Spoiler alert…Satan’s game plan is to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10 NASB). If anything falls into one of those categories then it’s of Satan. And sure enough it does. In this case he is trying to steal what our Savior did for us. That was the day Satan lost the battle illegally. He had an innocent man crucified without legal cause.
So how did the eggs and bunnies invade our most sacred event in Christianity? This discussion can go very deep but I’ll keep it simple. I encourage you to go deeper and ask the hard questions . Most importantly what does the Bible say? The King James version of the Bible translated the word Pesach as Easter but it should’ve been translated as Passover. Passover is a Jewish ordinance observed each year as a Passover sacrifice to the Lord who passed over the houses of the sons of Israel in Egypt when He smote the Egyptians, but spared the Jewish homes. The term Eostre (pronounced as easter) refers to the pagan deity of a mythical woman who represents fertility and the spring equinox. She turns a bird (where the eggs come from) into a rabbit (which represents fertility). If Satan can confuse Eve by basically twisting up God’s words to get her to do the wrong thing, I believe he would use this opportunity to confuse the body of Christ. This is the most important event in Christianity where we are saved, healed, made whole, delivered and preserved (sozo Romans 10:9). Satan doesn’t want this because this admits defeat. Jesus did this on the cross as a man not as part of the trinity. It’s a beautiful sacrifice that Jesus did. I encourage you to go deeper. You won’t be sorry.
Let’s face it folks, many Christians are not going deeper to find out what God is trying to say to us. When we do things God’s way He blesses that way. God loves us so much that He gave us this wonderful book, the Bible, to help us in life. We need to read, study and ask Holy Spirit to guide us in all things. Nothing is new under the sun (Ecclesiastes 1:9). So that means everything is referenced in this great book.
Let’s go worship our Lord Jesus giving Him all the praise and glory that He deserves on this resurrection Sunday. Go in peace and love one another as I (Jesus) love you (John 13:34).
