Do you think you would fight differently if you knew you already won? You’d have no fear and extra courage with maybe a little more charisma. Well we have won!! Jesus has beaten satan and now we’re waiting for Him to throw satan in the lake of fire!! Hallelujah!! While we’re waiting for this event we need to defend what Jesus did for us. Hold that evil devil back! Our fight isn’t carnal but spiritual (Ephesians 6:12).
I used to watch this show called “I Survived.” I liked it because you knew someone had gone through this horrific ordeal but you knew they overcame. You could see the courage rise up in them, and they did what they needed to to survive. They overcame! That is what Jesus wants us to do – overcome! Those who overcome will be saved.
I observed a similar experience in the hospital. I’m a retired nurse now, but back in the day I used to work weekends. I took care of our kids during the week and my husband cared for them on the weekends. I worked with this male nurse who loved everything football. He even taped the games when he had to work the weekend or Monday nights. All the nurses knew we could not talk about the scores the following day until we knew he had watched his games on tape. Well another staff member not familiar with our “rules” about not talking about scores started blurting out facts, scores and plays that happened during the games. This guy nurse overheard them and about had a fit! So I asked him if he was going to still watch the games and he said of course. But he also said something interesting. He said I’ll watch them but I’m not afraid when the other team scores or my team makes a mistake. I already know the outcome. All of my emotions are removed. It almost becomes uneventful and not a big deal. It wasn’t until years later that this resonated with me spiritually. This is the way we should fight satan – all fear and emotions removed. We know the end score!! But we need to do our best because we love Jesus and all that He has done for us. This was a HUGE price to buy us back.
Our fight here on earth is to overcome the schemes of the devil and live victoriously with Christ awaiting the glorious day when He returns for us. Always remember the devil comes to kill, steal and destroy but He comes to give us life more abundantly (John 10:10).
