Hold Fast

The term “hold fast” is a unique phrase that isn’t used much today. If you google it you will find many online stores and a Steam game using that phrase. Sailors use it to tell someone to tighten a rope (line). But what does it mean for Christians?

Let’s start in Revelation 2-3 where the apostle John wrote what Jesus said through the Holy Spirit:

Nevertheless what you have, hold fast until I come. (Revelation 2:25)

I am coming quickly; hold fast what you have, so that no one will take your crown. (Revelation 3:11)

Jesus is telling the first-century churches of Thyatira and Philadelphia (and our churches today) that He will come back and to hold onto what you’ve got until He comes back. So that’s not really helpful; it just reformats what the verses stated. What it means is that we Christians need to cling to and believe the promises of the Bible and the words Jesus said, because He is coming back to the earth again. Don’t be deceived by satan and false teachings.

I urge you to read all of Revelation chapters 2 and 3 for context and additional details. That’s your homework. Also, this is a link to other Bible verses containing “hold fast” for your reference and further study. God bless you!

God is love. So above all else, let love be the beautiful prize for which you run (1 Corinthians 13:13 TPT). Jesus is Lord.
